I came across a short clip on the Ted Talk’s site entitled ‘8 secrets of success.’ I am planning on showing it to my students in order to encourage them to remain motivated during this stage of the year, as it may be difficult for them given the pressure of exam revision etc. The video ties in nicely with the mindsets work they’ve covered in College and seems to be pertinent, given that the exam period is imminent.

We had an excellent turnout at the meeting on Tuesday, with 20 members of staff representing most curriculum areas. The topic was “Motivation”, fitting in with the priority of developing achievement mind sets among our students.

This is worth a look. It concentrates on GCSE, but many of the issues are relevant for us as well. The methodology is interesting: identify underachieving students, then talk to the teachers who seem to be having success with the same students.
